Description
Jackson Square is the heart of New Orleans. Right on the bank of the Mississippi River, surrounded by two Louisiana State Museums, St. Louis Cathedral, and the wrought-iron and red-brick Pontalba Apartment buildings, you can hear the trains and the steamboats, smell the beignets and cafe au lait of Cafe du Monde, and feel the rhythms of hot Dixieland jazz! Meet your local guide at the fountain in the square and explore this park from every corner for 45 minutes. Learn about its past as a Native American gathering place, the colonial execution grounds, the place where the town welcomed the troops after the battle of New Orleans, and the site of countless celebrations and a few scandals. The Square was transformed to its current state around 1850 and has remained almost exactly the same since then. Today, artists, musicians, street performers, tarot card readers, great shops, and dining surround the Square. Almost every movie and TV show filmed in New Orleans squeezes in a scene in the Square. The entire tour is in the Square. This is an excellent tour for anyone who would like to get a deeper understanding of the history and culture of New Orleans but prefers not to do too much walking.Includes
