Description

On this walking tour of the French Quarter you will be engaged as we converse about the confluences of cultures and the stories of yesteryear. You will see the architecture and the oldest building in the entire Mississippi Valley. We will discuss the history of the Native Americans, enslaved, French, Spanish, Creole and mixed races who made this land home. Nowhere in New Orleans will you experience the pulse of the city like you will on this tour in the French Quarter. The French Quarter Walking Tour begins at 400 Esplanade Avenue in front of US Mint where we will begin our walk through the past with stories of our 300 plus years. You will see St Louis Cathedral, the most photographed church in the south, and you will visit the Mississippi River which is the reason New Orleans exists. Whether it was legalized prostitution, the creation of jazz music, Mardi Gras parades, original cuisine, America’s first cocktails or floods and hurricanes we have always been in the headlines and those stories just scratch the surface. The full history of New Orleans could fill volumes and still never be told in full. Walk along with our Living Legacy guide who can tell you the recent history firsthand and the old history through the words of their own ancestors who lived the history. History takes on a different feel when told by the people who have lived it. The tour will end in the vicinity of 848 Decatur Street, near Café Du Monde because beignets are always a good idea. There, your Living Legacy guide will make sure you have recommendations of places to see or eat and drink as well as making sure you are headed in the right direction. We leave no tourist behind.
